Michael Penix Jr.'s late touchdown pass to Rome Odunze lifted the No. 8 Washington Huskies to a wild 36-33 victory over the No. 7 Oregon Ducks on Saturday.
The game was back-and-forth throughout, with both teams trading leads. Washington went up 29-18 in the third quarter, but Oregon answered with two touchdowns to take a 33-29 lead with just over three minutes remaining.
That's when Penix took over. He led the Huskies on a 53-yard drive in just 33 seconds, capped off by his 18-yard touchdown pass to Odunze in the back corner of the end zone. Oregon had one last chance to tie the game, but Camden Lewis missed a 43-yard field goal on the final play.
Penix finished the game with 302 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Odunze had eight catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns.
The win was Washington's sixth in a row and improved their record to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Pac-12 play. Oregon fell to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Huskies' victory was a huge statement win for their program. It was their first win over the Ducks since 2019, and it came against a team that was ranked ahead of them in the polls.
Penix was the hero of the game for Washington. He had a number of big plays throughout the game, but his late touchdown pass to Odunze was the biggest of all.
The Huskies are now one of the hottest teams in college football. They have a legitimate chance to win the Pac-12 and make a run in the College Football Playoff.
