The Oregon Ducks fell to the Washington Huskies 36-33 on Saturday in a heartbreaking loss that saw the Ducks come back from a two-touchdown deficit in the second half, only to lose on a late touchdown drive by the Huskies.
The Ducks got off to a slow start, trailing 29-18 early in the third quarter. But Oregon then scored two touchdowns and forced a turnover to take a 33-29 lead with just over six minutes to play.
However, the Huskies responded with a touchdown drive of their own, capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Michael Penix Jr. to Rome Odunze with just 98 seconds remaining.
The Ducks tried to drive back for the game-winning touchdown, but they were stopped on fourth down at the Washington 45-yard line.
The loss was the Ducks' first in Pac-12 play this season. It also dropped Oregon to 5-2 overall.
Ducks Show Fight, But Fall Short
Despite the loss, the Ducks showed a lot of fight on Saturday. They came back from a two-touchdown deficit and had a chance to win the game at the end.
Oregon quarterback Bo Nix had a solid game, throwing for 337 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 63 yards.
Running back Bucky Irving had a big game as well, rushing for 127 yards and a touchdown.
Wide receiver Franklin had eight receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Ducks held Washington to just 415 total yards. But the Huskies were able to convert some key third downs and score the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Ducks Need to Learn from Their Mistakes
The Ducks need to learn from their mistakes in this game. They can't afford to start slow and give up big plays on defense.
Oregon also needs to improve in the red zone. The Ducks left several points on the field on Saturday, which ultimately cost them the game.
The Ducks have a tough game coming up next week against Washington State. But if they can learn from their mistakes and play to their potential, they will be in a good position to win that game and get back on track.
